Oliver
Oliver is a first-class Maths and Physics graduate from the University of Warwick. He has a longstanding passion for both subjects and seeks to inspire the same intellectual curiosity in his students.
My academic background, together with my recent experience as a student, enables me to explain challenging concepts clearly while remaining sensitive to the difficulties learners often face.

I have been working as a tutor for the past three academic years, having previously gained informal experience tutoring family friends and assisting with classes during my time at school. I tutor Maths, Further Maths and Physics at GCSE and A Level across all major exam boards, with a particular focus on A Level Maths and Physics, but also provide support for admissions tests such as the MAT, PAT and TMUA. Alongside exam preparation, I prioritise helping students develop confidence and a genuine enjoyment of their subjects. I am happy to go beyond the syllabus where appropriate, including projects and early university-level material for students who wish to stretch themselves. Several of the students I have supported have gone on to secure places on highly competitive courses, including Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge and PPE at the University of Oxford. One student improved from an A to an A* in both Further Mathematics and Physics, securing a place at Cambridge. I have also supported students requiring intensive short-term help: in one case, a student working at a D in A-Level Physics made rapid progress over a short period and ultimately achieved an A in the exam. Across my tutoring, multiple students have made improvements of three or more grades.
I achieved a First Class Degree in 2021 from the University of Warwick, studying Mathematics and Physics. With 4 A*s at A Level, preceded by 12 A*s at GCSE, I have a strong personal academic record. During my undergraduate studies, I completed a research project in the computational modelling of laser characteristics for improving versatility in different experiments. I have always enjoyed the sciences as a whole, but was truly drawn to Maths and Physics at school thanks to two excellent teachers who fostered a genuine enthusiasm for the subject. That experience has had a lasting impact on me, and I am keen to pass on the same curiosity and enjoyment to my students.
My academic background, together with my recent experience as a student, enables me to explain challenging concepts clearly while remaining sensitive to the difficulties learners often face. I tailor each session carefully to the individual, continually refining both my teaching approach and the structure of sessions in response to how each student learns best. Alongside this, I have a strong personal interest in learning strategies, shaped by my academic studies, work and also hobbies such as chess and language learning, which have deepened my understanding of how students absorb, retain, and apply information. I also encourage students to explore beyond the syllabus, as fostering curiosity consistently enhances engagement and understanding. Beyond developing subject knowledge and confidence, my aim is to help students become increasingly independent in their approach to problem-solving, building skills that carry forward into further study, work, and everyday learning.
I'm currently working as a tutor full time, which I am thoroughly enjoying, and have been doing so for the last 3 academic years. When I'm not tutoring I enjoy swimming, cycling, chess and also language learning, specifically French.
