I began my career as a Psychology teacher and was quickly recognised for both my academic leadership and pastoral strength, which led to my promotion to Senior Tutor with responsibility for overseeing the UCAS process, including Oxbridge applications. I subsequently progressed to become Head of Psychology, then Head of Psychology and Criminology, and later Head of Sixth Form within the independent sector.

Alongside my current teaching with Charterhouse Online, I also support students preparing for entrance into Charterhouse Sixth Form. In recent years, I have tutored students from a range of leading independent schools, including Guildford High School, St John’s and Sevenoaks.

Having examined for several years, I possess an intricate understanding of examination board requirements and the precise techniques needed to secure top grades. My recent successes include supporting a young man to move from a U grade to a B through targeted, structured tuition, and guiding a student to achieve an A* on resitting her A levels, enabling her to realise her ambition of pursuing Dentistry.

I am a highly experienced Psychology and Criminology specialist with over 25 years of teaching and senior leadership experience in leading independent schools. Grammar school educated, I read for my BA (Hons) at a Russell Group university before teaching in an international school. I subsequently completed my PGCE at a Russell Group university, graduating with Distinction.

I combine academic excellence with exceptional pastoral insight, and I hold an additional postgraduate certificate in counselling skills. This combination enables me not only to secure outstanding academic outcomes, but also to build confidence, resilience and intellectual independence in my students.

I currently teach Psychology at Charterhouse Online and Minerva Virtual Academy, and I have also worked as Head of Psychology and Criminology and Head of Sixth Form at Tormead School and Prior's Field School.

As a subject specialist in AQA and Cambridge International Psychology and WJEC Criminology, I possess an exceptionally detailed understanding of specification demands, assessment objectives and grade boundaries. I am an examiner for AQA Psychology Paper 2, WJEC Criminology Papers 2 and 4, and Edexcel GCSE Psychology Paper 1. This frontline examining experience allows me to provide precise, insider guidance on how top-level responses are constructed and rewarded.

I have also contributed to national curriculum development through my work with Ofqual and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority on the AQA Psychology syllabus. In addition, my role as a member of the Independent Monitoring Board gives me direct engagement with the criminal justice system, bringing contemporary, real-world insight to my Criminology teaching.

My tutoring is structured, rigorous and highly personalised. Students benefit from clear frameworks, examiner informed feedback, and explicit modelling of A* and Distinction-standard responses. Parents value my professionalism, reliability and depth of expertise; students value my clarity, warmth and unwavering belief in their potential.

My tutoring is strategic and carefully tailored to each individual student. I have extensive experience supporting both Oxbridge applicants and students with Special Educational Needs, adapting my approach with sensitivity and flexibility to ensure every learner feels confident and well-supported.

I combine strong foundations with clear, effective exam technique and the development of thoughtful, precise academic writing. My sessions are exam-focused while remaining current, engaging and lively, helping students to stay motivated and confident.

Through structured guidance, constructive feedback and consistent encouragement, I enable students to build confidence, independence and the skills needed to achieve excellent outcomes, including success at leading universities.

In addition to my private tutoring, I teach Psychology at Charterhouse Online and work as a Cambridge International A Level teacher with Minerva Virtual Academy. I also serve as an examiner for AQA, Edexcel and WJEC, ensuring that my classroom and tutoring practice remains closely aligned with current assessment standards.

Outside my professional commitments, I am renovating a cottage in France. I am also a member of the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) within a prison, an independent statutory body that monitors the fairness, safety and decency of the custodial environment. In this role, I have direct oversight of prison conditions, prisoner welfare and the application of justice procedures, ensuring accountability and transparency within the criminal justice system. This first-hand engagement provides me with rare and current insight into the realities of incarceration, significantly enriching my teaching of Criminology with an authentic, real-world perspective.
