Biography
On leaving school in 2003 I taught for one year at St Paul's Cathedral School, where I worked with boys and girls aged 4 to 13. During this time I realised teaching was for me. I worked with children in all aspects of school life: homework, music practice, games, bedtime for the boarding choristers, school trips, monitoring breaks and lunch...
I then went to Cambridge University, where I was awarded a first in Classics. I have since taught about 400 hours for Keystone Tutors, mostly as a Latin and Greek teacher working with A level and GCSE students.
During the academic year 2008-2009 I also worked as a piano teacher at Westminster Cathedral School, again working with children aged 7 to 13. I still teach piano privately, and I teach singing and general music at a local Saturday club, Questors, where I work with children aged 6 to 18.
I have also taught ages 13 to 18 as a Latin and Classical Civilisation supply teacher and even given an undergraduate supervision at Cambridge! This was rather daunting.
Personal Approach
It is important for me to give students the opportunity to recognise their own skills, and to develop confidence. I like to know what someone likes and dislikes about a subject, because this often shows where they think their skills lie! Then it's my job to show what else they can do.
I like to keep a clear, realistic goal in mind, because a sense of achievement is important in learning. I find things become more enjoyable (and easier) when there is a mood of progress and success.
Testimonials
''We would like to say how professional and supportive Lewis Reynolds was in supporting our daughter in her revision preparation for her A2 examination in Classical Civilisation. We would certainly recommend him as a tutor to other parents/students.''
