Kristine has been teaching for many years, with a focus on teaching English as a second language. She has worked with students of different age ranges from all over the world meaning that she works to tailor each lesson to the individuals needs and learning styles.

Experience

Since taking a CELTA qualification in 2011, I have taught English as a Second Language at Twin International School (2011-2013 - age groups 6+), and then at Eurocentres Language School (2013 to 2017). In addition, I have taught teenage refugees/asylum seekers English and Maths to enable them to join mainstream schools.

I also teach and invigilate the IELTs exam, the standard English exam used for entry to university or medical school in the UK.

I have prepared many young students, over a period of ten years, for 7+, 11+ and 13+ entrance exams, at Alleyn's, Dulwich College, Harrow, King’s, St. Paul’s and City of London, all of whom were successful.

At Eurocentres, I have taken part in Safeguarding, and Cultural and Religious Awareness courses within Teacher Development sessions, and have completed a Special Educational Needs course, particularly relating to dyslexia.

Biography

After many years of working in the music industry in London, a New York art gallery, and writing series drama for all major TV channels (particularly for 8-14 age range), I found my real passion - teaching. Since I mainly teach English as a Second Language, I've got to know students from all around the world, and watching them progress in their studies, and preparing them for the very stringent exams, such as IELTS, which enable them to enter UK universities, or law, or the medical profession, has been so rewarding.

Approach to Tutoring

I tailor my teaching to the student's learning style, whether learning through doing, listening or observing, aiming to explain a topic thoroughly, demonstrate it on paper, provide examples, elicit any queries, and only then to encourage the student to solve similar problems. Once taught, I like to come back to the topic through pre-planned tasks, or set homework, to satisfy myself that the student thoroughly understands. Building confidence is crucial, particularly in a topic which the student has previously found too challenging or confusing. I also aim to build a strong rapport with the student, so that they feel confident to ask questions, with a view to building a curiosity in the subject, thereby enhancing their proficiency in the subject.

When not tutoring

In my free time, I read and watch movies in French, in a bid to become more fluent in the language. In addition, I write short plays, which have been performed in small venues around London, and have undertaken three interior design projects in London and Kent, and my own house, garden and pond are ongoing projects.
