Experience
I have been working in primary schools for just under 4 years now. I started as a teaching assistant and then undertook my teacher training which was a school-based, on-the-job training. I then went on to work in an independent prep school in Wandsworth and a Special Needs school, for a short time, in Kensington. I have taught children between the ages of 5 and 9 (Years 1, 3 & 4) so far but also have some experience tutoring children aged 11.
Biography
I went to an all-girls boarding school in Surrey called Woldingham for 7 years which I loved. I then took a year out travelling to Asia and Australia before studying Geography at Edinburgh University for 4 years. I then came to London and worked in Public Relations and as a PA for a while.
In 2005, I decided to change direction and started working in schools and trained to become a teacher. I obtained Qualified Teacher Status in February 2008. I now wish to continue working in schools, on a part-time basis, alongside tutoring children at home the remainder of the time.
Personal Approach
The teacher training I undertook encouraged me to think outside the box and come up with more inspiring and dynamic ways of teaching the curriculum to primary school children. I have become very good at sourcing resources for teaching that will motivate and engage my pupils. I believe in the importance of building up a child's self-esteem and confidence and that this goes hand-in-hand with academic achievements and success. I aim to capitalise on a child's strengths and use these, where possible, to work on areas of weakness.
