Biography
I was born in London, but grew up in Sussex. I was always interested in and good at mathematics, and was offered a place to study this at Oxford. However, the more I studied maths, the more I became interested in its foundations, and its broader implications outside of the discipline. I ended up changing courses to maths and philosophy. In order to further probe philosophy and how it is applicable in society at large, I changed to philosophy, politics and economics, which is what I graduated in. After finishing university, I worked in India for 6 months as a research assistant to a PhD student, and for a micro-finance NGO. Since arriving back in the UK, I've been working as a tutor, and studying part-time for a master's in philosophy. Away from studies, my passion has always been music. I reached grade 8 on the cello when I was 15, and am also an experienced and accomplished singer and guitarist, taking leading roles in large-scale London musical productions, and playing/singing in gigging and recording function jazz-bands.
Personal Approach
My approach to tutoring is always to foster a genuine interest in the subject. It is almost impossible to progress with a subject that one doesn't find interesting. I also work hard to tailor each lesson to the specific needs and curiosities of each student, since this is, one hopes, what can make one-to-one tuition more rewarding than group learning. My hope is lessons will always be enjoyable, helpful and thought-provoking.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I study some of the time for my master's, and also perform with my jazz bands at parties and weddings. I also enjoy cooking and travelling.
