I am a very experienced primary school teacher and tutor. I have been teaching and tutoring since 2004. I am adept at planning multiple schemes of work in all primary subjects and an expert in assessing children.
I have been successful in helping children gain entrance to several schools at 7 + , 8 + and 11 + . These include: Highgate, Haberdashers' Aske's Boys and Girls School, Belmont, Aldenham and Immanuel College.
I initially studied Law at The University of Leeds. After gaining my Law Degree and working for some time in London, I then decided to train as a teacher.
I am now in my 17th year as a primary teacher and tutor. I first decided to tutor in my spare time as I particularly enjoyed leading and facilitating small intervention groups at school. Through these, I recognised how much of a difference 1-1 teaching can make to a child. Rapid progress can be made while allowing a child to have the opportunity to grow in confidence.
As a highly successful tutor, I always ensure that I make learning real and relevant. I nurture children while challenging them to reach their full potential. I do this by always having high expectations but I am always patient and kind. I have a real skill in enabling children to feel much more confident in their own ability in all areas. I use proven mathematical teaching methods to ensure maths becomes easy to understand and apply in real life situations. I am proficient in assessment so I can quickly identify weaker areas to work on.
As a result of the above, I have a very good track record of supporting children throughout their years at primary school, helping them to gain high grades in school tests and ensuring many children are successful in passing the 7 +, 8+ and 11 + examinations.
I am always warm, friendly and approachable as well as always being patient and kind. I use a variety of learning styles, depending on the needs of the student. I pride myself on my ability to raise confidence in children.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I teach Wednesday-Friday so I am unavailable for tutoring on these days.
In my spare time, I love spending time with my daughter. I also have a keen interest in history and thoroughly enjoy going to exhibitions. I especially enjoy visiting the British Museum.
''Gaynor helped my son pass the 7 plus exam to get into Highgate School''. She was so patient and explained work so clearly. She helped my son establish a good study routine and made lessons fun and engaging.'' (Mother of 7 year old).
''A huge thanks to Gaynor who worked so well with my daughter, helping her to understand difficult maths problems and also how to improve her creative writing. My daughter ended up gaining places for Year 7 at all the schools she sat for.'' (Mother of an 11 year old child).
