I started working as a History and English Literature tutor whilst studying for my A Levels at St Marylebone School. I went on to study History at the University of Nottingham, where I continued to work as a tutor. I also volunteered with the charity IntoUniversity running after school clubs in local schools and providing one-on-one mentoring. Upon graduating I gained a First degree and the Robert Mellors Prize for my History dissertation and have continued to tutor ever since. I am an avid learner and passionate about helping children achieve their potential.
I believe in a holistic, personalised approach to tutoring and tailor my approach differently according to the needs of the pupil.
With that said, I have built my tutoring style on a set of consistent techniques and beliefs. I stress communication above all. I spend a good amount of time with both parent and pupil, helping the pupil articulate what specifically they find challenging and using this information to set clear and achievable targets. My sessions involve a lot of active learning as well as a strong focus on exam technique.
I believe a good relationship with the pupil is the bedrock of any progress. My experience mentoring children and young people outside of tutoring has helped me to establish a good rapport with all my pupils, and I have a strong track record inspiring confidence in my students.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I love sports, particularly figure skating and cold water swimming, and am at the Hampstead Heath ponds all year round. I am also an avid cook. I continue to be passionate about History, and right now am freelance translating items from the Ringelblum archive for an upcoming History book.
