I have worked as a part time tutor for over 5 years in London, Cambridge and Suffolk teaching Maths, Science and Biology to all standards up to and including university level. I worked in an Ipswich High School as a full time Science and Maths teacher for two years. I have experience of working with dyslexic children helping them to overcome their own specific barriers to learning. I have also worked for a number of different charities offering free tuition to discerning children with a want for 1:1 tuition.
I am an incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable Science and Maths tutor. I have worked full time as a maths and Science teacher at a secondary school through the teach first scheme. Tutoring has been both my livelihood and hobby for the last five years. I have worked with a multitude of children and young adults honing my teaching methods and examples to provide students with succinct, engaging pieces of learning. I am passionate about 1: 1 tutoring and have seen first-hand the extremely positive effect that tailored learning has on an individual’s specific needs. Comments from past tutees describe a very knowledgeable, relaxed yet professional tutor who gets results.
The great thing about tutoring is you can focus the entire session on the specific needs and requirements of one pupil. I use all my resources from my days in the classroom to make incredibly engaging and in depth sessions that give students an all-round appreciation for the topic. I recognise that all pupils learn differently and adapt each of my lessons to accommodate for these particular learning styles. My lessons are comfortable and relaxed yet a lot of work is still covered. I tutor because I feel it is one of the best way for a student to learn and I take real pride in seeing the progress that my students make in each of our sessions.
What I do when I am not tutoring
Having worked in many different schools I was put off with the tedious frustrations that this job has and decided to pursue an employment path that allows me to focus purely on the educational well being of my students.
I have achieved Grade 8 in both Singing and Piano and also played Bass Trombone in the Suffolk Orchestra and touring all over Europe for four years. During my time off I play a very competitive game of squash and have recently discovered a passion for Ultimate Frisbee. I also enjoy hosting movie marathons and beating my friends at Monopoly. I am also an avid traveller and have a personal goal to visit all the continents of the world before the age of 30.
From Sandie - Home School Tutored for Science and Maths:
Harry is a conscientious and knowledgeable tutor. His ability to engage the student with the subject matter is excellent. Our son is quirky and requires a tutor to be able to engage him to enhance his learning ability. Harry has been brilliant with Louis in that he keeps him focused. When Louis goes off subject Harry is firm but encouraging and swiftly will put Louis straight back on track. Louis has an enquiring mind and sometimes this mind lacks focus on the subject in hand due to his enthusiasm to link what he is currently working on with other areas. Harry encourages Louis enthusiasm to explore those links and will open then up into discussions which enhances Louis's learning. This approach best suits our son and Harry was very quick to identify that learning style that suits Louis best. Harry is a very intelligent tutor. His knowledge of Science is phenomenal and we will use Harry for as long as he is available as a tutor. Another thing about Harry is that he is very good at following up the lessons with prep work so Louis carry's on his learning outside of the tutor lessons. As a communicator with us the parents Harry is brilliant at briefing us on Louis performances during tutoring and how best to go forward. Louis loves his lesson with Harry, it is the highlight of his week. Louis's knowledge in maths ( which was his weakest area) has had a swift upward learning curve since the lessons with Harry, Louis now loves maths and we look forward to seeing Louis's continued progression with Harry grow. I would recommend to any parent looking for an excellent tutor.
From Fiona - GCSE/A level Maths:
Harry was excellent at explaining the things which my son simply did not understand from his school teacher. After the lessons Harry sent through some problem questions which my son used to consolidate what he had learned. My son enjoyed the sessions and became confident rather than competely bamboozled. Harry's patient and cheerful help meant that my son achieved a good grade which he simply would both have obtained without Harry's help.
From Masie - A level Chemistry:
Harry has been a huge help with my Chemistry, he has a relaxed style of tutoring and works through questions and topics with calmness and clarity, making even the most tricky topics more manageable and less daunting. It has been hugely beneficial to have extra sessions with Harry to consolidate my learning from school and also to have the opportunity to go further than what is taught in class. I would highly recommend Harry to anyone looking for a tutor.
My 15 year old son is currently being tutored by Harry in GCSE maths.
I have found Harry to be both professional and friendly. He has provided very helpful feedback on my son's progress, as well as giving advice on exam techniques. He is an excellent tutor, explains maths clearly, and has given my son a lot of much needed confidence in this subject.
I highly recommend Harry - I just wish I'd found him earlier!
