I have tutored Maths and Physics for 7 years, beginning at the University of Nottingham while reading Mechanical Engineering, and eventually tutoring full time for the last two years. I have covered all major of exam boards in both Maths and Physics including WJEC (used by Eton College). Since residing in London I have prepared students for 11+ and 13+ exams for: Emanuel School, St Paul's, Eton Kings Scholarship, Alleyn's, City of London Boys & Girls, Dulwich College, Dulwich Prep, Francis Holland, Godolphin and Latymer, Latymer Upper, Whitgift, Harrow, KCS and others. I have taught at The Independent School, Hammersmith and previously held the role of Musical Director at the Haringey Shed Theatre Company.
I grew up in the Midlands attending Bablake Independent School and Sixth Form College achieving A's in Maths and Physics at A-level. I then travelled briefly before reading Mechanical Engineering at The University of Nottingham achieving a 2:1 while also becoming heavily involved with the university theatre. I subsequently worked as an Engineer for one year before starting my own theatre company and going on to train as an actor at The Oxford School of Drama. I have been tutoring for the last seven years becoming full-time tutor two years ago.
As a private tutor I like to take the time to understand the student as an all-round individual. This helps me adapt my approach based on their strengths and weaknesses. I like to bring a good level of energy to my lessons that encourages fast-paced thinking and I strongly encourage curiosity in the subject, never shutting down an interesting question with 'you don't need to know that yet'.
What I do when I am not tutoring
When I'm not tutoring I enjoy spending time with my Samoyed dog Schubert and sledding him around Wandsworth Park in the winter (it certainly attracts some looks!). In the summer my weekends are consumed by Cricket, I play for a team of actors and to say we're enthusiastic would be a gross understatement. I also love to compose music, I occasionally write for theatre productions or otherwise for fun.
'I contacted Chris in desperation as my daughter, who takes Maths Pre-U in June, was rapidly losing confidence and struggling with her knowledge - or lack of it. Chris has been incredibly helpful in ensuring Jess knows how to approach questions and in ensuring she applies her understanding to the questions. He was utterly professional, diligent and very well prepared'
''I've spoken to Ben - he said it doesn't feel like work, it feels like fun, so he would like to have it as a treat at the end of the week!!! I was speechless! This is from a little boy who a month ago said he hated maths ??''
'Chris is a fabulous maths tutor and really helped Zoe last year. Highly recommended!'
