My first teaching experience was at the American Community school in Hillingdon, where I was a mathematics tutor, music tutor and supply teacher. As a supply teacher I taught literally every age group, from kindergarten through to high school.
This experience inspired me to take up formal teacher training; I obtained a PGCE and Master of Education at the University of Cambridge. I went on to teach for 3 years at an inner-city state comprehensive school, under the inspirational leadership of Sir Paul Grant, followed by four and a half years at a prestigious grammar school for boys in New Zealand. I also taught full time mathematics at St James' Senior Girls' school in London (all ages from year 6 to year 12), a school which fosters not only academic development but also the emotional and spiritual development of students, through the daily practices such as mindfulness, meditation and the study of philosophy.
As a result of these diverse experiences I am confident in teaching students of all abilities and backgrounds and helping them to fulfil their potential.
I was born and raised in London. I was fortunate to have an inspirational mathematics teacher who helped me to fulfil my academic potential and in the sixth form I received the school award for excellence in mathematics.
I went on to study Mathematical Sciences at Bath University and graduated with honours, as well as being elected President of the Students' Union (a one year sabbatical post).
After University I travelled the world and worked in the fitness industry before setting up a tuition company that specialised in teaching guitar, bass guitar and drums to secondary school students.
In 2005 I took up postgraduate studies at Cambridge University, obtaining a Postgraduate Certificate of Education and a Master of Education (my masters research thesis was a study of the happiness of secondary school pupils).
Since becoming a qualified teacher I have taught for ten years at several outstanding schools in a range of educational environments including international schools, grammar schools, independent/private sector schools, state comprehensive schools, mixed schools, boys' schools and girls' schools. As a result I have a wealth of experience in teaching all academic levels and helping students of all ages to succeed in mathematics.
I believe in tailoring tutoring to the specific needs of the individual. Mathematics is a subject that presents many challenges, so it is important to build confidence with the fundamentals and establish an environment where the student is comfortable and feels free to ask questions and explore the subject at their own pace.
Ultimately I see the tutor as someone who helps to empower and inspire the student to become an independent learner so that they can take charge of their own learning and achieve their goals using the power of their mind.
I am a fitness trainer, facilitator and well-being advisor. During my leisure time I practice the Brazilian martial art of Capoeira. I am based in West London.
"It was a great success and they've now moved onto a Skype arrangement which is working well too." Mother of previous student.
'Luka is a very good tutor, very patient, and engaging and managed to keep my niece interested for two hours in a subject that she clearly dislikes! I would recommend him highly.' (Mother of GCSE Maths tutor)
''Over his three year period (2006-2009) at Robert Clack School Luka developed into a fine teacher of mathematics. Pupils responded to his firm but fair discipline and as a consequence his classes achieved very well. His talent as a teacher is based on a superb work ethic and an ability to take advice and be self critical...
He has an ability to persuade, inspire and deliver on a huge scale.''
Sir Paul Grant, Head Teacher, Robert Clack School
''Luka has been a supply teacher, summer schools teacher and music instructor for ACS Hillingdon International school. While at ACS he has distinguished himself by the quality of his instruction, his attention to detail, warm relationships with students and colleagues and his professionalism. He plans and conducts thoughtful and engaging lessons, paying close attention to student needs and differentiation.''
Mr Bill Halliday, Principal, ACS Hillingdon
Student Feedback:
''Dear Mr Radovic,
You have done an unbelievable amount for me this year, the year that counts the most. Somehow you made me actually enjoy maths, and I really can't thank you enough.''
Charlie, GCSE Student, London
''Thanks for teaching me for two years and helping me to get 95% in IGCSE maths!''
Alex, IGCSE Student, New Zealand
''Luka was extremely professional, punctual and friendly. He encouraged my daughter's independence working her maths skills on the computer. He made the atmosphere light and playful which made the lesson go by fast for everyone!
Working remotely (online lessons) was a success too, allaying my fears that it might just be too remote.
I believe my daughter learnt and clarified a great deal and her grades improved as a result.
I would highly recommend Luka as a very proficient and delightful tutor.''
