I have recorded several hundred hours of GCSE, AS and A Level Economics and Business Studies tuition over the last year across a range of exam boards, working one on one with pupils of varying abilities, and nationalities.
One of my current students is dyslexic, so I have experience in tailoring materials and lessons to suit specific learning styles and requirements. He is currently on track for an A grade in Business Studies having received a D in his AS Level last year.
I have previously volunteered at a London state school, working one on one with gifted pupils in order to further their understanding in Maths and English.
I grew up in Sussex (having moved from Germany at age 8), attending a local girls school where I achieved 9 A* and 5 A grade GCSE's. I went on to study Maths, Psychology, Business Studies and Sociology at A Level (3 As, 1 B), and AS Level French (A) at sixth-form, where I received the prize for 'Outstanding Academic Achievement across a Breadth of Study'.
I graduated from the University of Warwick in 2010 with a 2:1 in PPE (Economics major), spending the subsequent year travelling around South America and South East Asia before taking up a position in the Sales & Trading division of an Investment Bank, where I worked for 3 years.
I am currently working on my own start-up business and so tutoring forms a large part of my weekly routine.
I believe that private tuition offers the pupil the chance to explore a subject at their own pace, and in their preferred style of learning. I tailor my lessons to suit those needs and, when possible, try to adapt the topic to the students own interests and curiosities in order to create a more memorable, engaging and ultimately enjoyable experience for the student .
In Business Studies and Economics in particular I believe it’s important to bring theory to life with relevant news stories and real life examples – having worked in companies as diverse as an Investment Bank to a tech start-up I have plenty of these!
Building a pupils confidence is also key for me, and I find a clear focus on exam technique and essay structure is vital in achieving this, as well as ensuring they have the right academic tools and mentality to continue to reach their full potential and achieve their educational goals.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I am currently in the process of setting up my own business however when time permits, I love to travel and am always planning my next adventure!
I also love music of all genres and try to attend as many gigs and festivals as possible.
