Having worked as a qualified science teacher for several years in a large outstanding secondary school and tutored with Keystone for over 5 years I have extensive experience of public examinations and have worked with many children of varying ages and abilities. I primarily tutor online and have worked with students in Singapore, Hong Kong as well as all over the UK. I have built up extensive knowledge of international schools and have worked with several students to bridge the gap between their syllabus and the UK curriculum.
I went to school in Oxfordshire and completed my A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and English Literature before studying Zoology at Leeds University. Educating young people is an exciting challenge and I began undertaking school experience programs when I was at university. This led me to complete a PGCE in Secondary Science which led to qualified teacher status. After working at an Outstanding secondary school as a science teacher for three years I completed an MSc in Education (child development) at the University of Oxford to further my understanding of how children learn. After gaining a high distinction in my dissertation I am now undertaking a PhD at Oxford which has a focus on improving the conceptual understanding of children at primary school by designing and implementing an enquiry-based science programme.

31/03/2017: Revision Strategies For The Upcoming Exam Season
Identifying areas of weakness is an essential starting point. Too often these areas develop due to a lack of confidence or gaps in subject knowledge. I aim to build up this confidence and fill in the gaps whilst forming a strong relationship with each student based on their own learning style.
Familiarisation with exam papers and mark schemes will help students identify what they are being asked to do. Subsequently they will feel more relaxed when faced with the actual paper and ultimately achieve better.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I am currently completing a PhD in Education at the University of Oxford so spend time reading and writing about my topic. During the summer I enjoy travelling, using Singapore as a base to explore Asia, and aim to see as much of the world as possible!
"My daughter thinks Jenny is outstanding and says she has learnt and/or understood more in 4 hours with Jenny than in a whole school term." (Mother of Year 11 student)
'Thanks to Jenny, our daughter passed her Common Entrance (+13) Science with flying colours. Targeted teaching through identifying areas of weakness and filling in the gaps combined with endless patience boosted her confidence no end. Jenny's revision strategies helped enormously with ploughing through the vast syllabus. (Mother of online 13+ tutor in Singapore)
"Thank you both very much for all the time and effort you have spent in helping my daughter prepare for her 13+ Science Common Entrance. By the time she came to take the exam she felt confident and prepared, which is all one could ask for. In light of the time constraint and the mismatch in curriculum, along with all her school activities, I think it a huge achievement that she managed to cover so much in such a short time. She enjoyed both your classes and at no point complained about having to do the extra Science, which shows how much she enjoyed your lessons." 13+ Downe House applicant from Singapore
My son got an A* in all of three sciences he took at GCSE this summer - he is thrilled! Thank you for all your help - it certainly gave my son a huge boost! (Mother of GCSE student)
Jenny was instrumental in securing top grades at GCSE in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Her sessions were structured and focussed and Jenny always knew when to take breaks. She helped our son structure his revision notes, explained areas of confusion clearly and provided invaluable exam technique points to maximise marks on any given question. On top of all of this our son positively enjoyed spending time with Jenny! A wonderful tutor. (Mother of GCSE student)
'I am delighted to let you know that I got an A* in Biology. That you so much for all your help, I wouldn't have gotten the grade without you!' (A Level student)
"I just wanted to let you know and thank you for your support as my son did really well in his GCSEs. He got A* in all his Sciences so Jenny was fantastic!" Mother of previous GCSE student.
'I know that my daughter really likes and is enthusiastic about the approach Jenny is taking. After her weekly sesssions with Jenny, she is always buzzing, engaged and so happy!' (Mother of GCSE student)
'I cannot say how much confidence Jenny has given our daughter with the tutor lessons. They are going so well! We can never thank you enough for all your help.' (Mother of A level Biology student)
'Jenny is great – she perfectly judges their attention span, is breaking through some of the ‘blocks’ they have built up re: science, taking it slow and steady, great at encouraging, and the children think she is great too.' (Mother of GCSE Science students)
