I have been employed at three selective schools of excellent reputation: Wyggeston Grammar School, Edgbaston High School and Northampton High School. I am an experienced and successful tutor at 11+,GCSE and A level.
I have taught all age groups English and English Literature from 11+ to A2/Oxbridge level throughout my entire career. I have taught and marked for several exam boards but most recently at Northampton High School (GDST) AQA English Language and Literature GCSE and AQA and OCR AS and A2 English Literature. As a recent Head of Department I have a significant and up to date knowledge of all of the major exam board requirements including changes for first examination in 2012.
I have been a sixth form tutor for several years and am therefore very experienced in UCAS applications and Oxbridge Entrance.
I have had a happy and successful career as a full-time English and English Literature teacher and latterly as a Head of Department at Northampton High School for Girls (GDST). My department and myself have scored very highly out of all 26 GDST schools in both value added and overall achievement sections at both GCSE and AS/A2 levels. My headmistress has described me as an ''outstanding leader and a vivacious colleague.' The recent School Inspection achieved excellent in all categories.
I have also been a producer of school plays and more recently been active in public speaking competitions as well as a member of the Marketing Team and writer of a range of school publications.
As a Head of Department I have moderated coursework at all levels and never had any marks challanged and indeed have been complimented on the excellence of the tasks set and the efficiency and accuracy of the marking.
I am looking forward to being able to continue to give of my expertise, knowledge and skill and forming positive and purposeful working relationships with tutees and have some fun along the way.
A sense of humour, commitment to improvement, genuine love of the subject and hard work have always enabled my pupils to be confident and secure in knowing that they have been well prepared and individually valued. Much can be achieved with individual tuition and I have given freely of my time to many pupils who need that extra boost and encouragement to reach potential and beyond. My subject lends itself to a range of approaches and the employment of lively material.Improvement can be more easily achieved when the material is tailored to the individual's needs and interests. I feel that confidence and focus are also crucial to a pupil's success. I am able to tutor from the two bases of Ealing and Northamptonshire.
What I do when I am not tutoring
Teaching has been a considerable time commitment but I have also been a Parish Councillor responsible for planning/local primary school governor/member of the local free prizewinning paper editorial team/book group member/church fundraising committee member/keen theatre and concert goer/Wasps Rugby Team Season ticket Holder etc.Having left Northampton High School after many happy years,
I intend to give a few more years tutoring as I have much energy, scholarship and skills still to deliver in support of those who wish to progress.
I am willing to support learning at all levels from 11 to 18.
