I have a car so am able to drive to lessons outside of London
I'm very meticulous in my approach to teaching Latin. I achieved full marks in my Latin Prose Composition module at A Level so I have a thorough grounding in the language. Once you understand the finer points of the language you can pretty much translate and understand anything, so no matter what we're doing, I will always bring it back to the language.
The most important thing for me is to ensure the student develops the tools to solve problems by themselves. I always try to help them discover the answer themselves first before supplying it myself. I find that this helps the student build confidence in their own abilities. At the end of the day we can't be there to answer all the questions in an exam or interview situation so they need to know they can use logic or their memory to help them.
I have been praised for the huge amount of enthusiasm and energy I bring to my work whether it's at the beginning of the day or the end and I always make sure I build a rapport with my students.
What I do when I am not tutoring
Outside of work I spend time with my dog, Rosie. I support Arsenal, attending matches whenever I can and I try to experiment in the kitchen. I also love reading about the history of London and travelling to anywhere vaguely ancient.
In the next few years, I see myself continuing to teach Latin full time and raising the profile of the Classics as well as tutoring students of different ages and drilling good spelling, grammar and punctuation into my tutees and anyone I come across who mistakes 'less' for 'fewer'!
Carina is organized, calm, professional and fun.Her credentials are impressive and her warm and encouraging approach towards teaching seems to be working. We are particularly pleased that Carina has introduced our daughter to Latin as her enthusiasm for her subject is obviously contagious. (Mother of Latin Student)
"My daughter is really enjoying her lessons with Carina and having a fantastic time" (Mother of 8 year old Maths and Latin student)
