GCSE & A Level Homeschooling
Keystone can offer homeschooling support to children in Years 10, 11, 12 & 13, whilst they approach their key exam years. Whilst we are not an exam centre we have good relationships with a number of exam centres in London and would be delighted to make these introductions for you. We can also advise on other locations for sitting exams.
Students being homeschooled in these key years require a more intense weekly timetable where we recommend four hours of learning per week for each core subject and two – three for the other subjects. Independent work is also set, as well as regular assessments to ensure the student is on track.
If students join us mid-way through their GCSE or A Level studies we can ensure a smooth handover from their previous learning centre, with the tutors being briefed on the exam board and set text to ensure no time is wasted in these key years. Our tutors are also very experienced with 16+ entry so can help prepare Year 10 and 11 students for this level of testing. In addition we have a University Consultancy support programme at Keystone so can help advise students on their next steps following their A Levels.
"In my experience, homeschooling allows students to explore in more depth and at greater leisure topics that they might never encounter at school in a variety of subjects, whether relating shape and space in Maths to one former student's love of architecture and engineering or expanding knowledge in history or the classics into a particular era. Over the long term, this can be wonderful for a student's development but even in the short term as a stop-gap between schools, for example, it can give a student a chance they might not get again until university to pursue different interests away from the curriculum while learning the same core skills."
