Course Description
Economics seeks to challenge conventional wisdom and offers solutions to many global problems. By dictating what to measure and how to measure it, economics can simplify observed behaviour and form an important framework to start solving major, global inequalities. As such, aspiring economists can hope to enact great social change. Studying economics at university is uniquely placed to offer fantastic career opportunities and to further analytical, quantitative, and critical thinking skills.
In this online course, designed for students finishing Years 11 and 12, students will explore what the field of economics looks like, which skills economists can develop, how it would be to study economics at university, and tips and tricks to enhance any application to read economics at university in the UK.
Lesson 1: An introduction to Economics

1.3 How to think like an economist (simple introduction to epistemology)

Lesson 2: An introduction to Studying Economics
2.1 Skills involved in reading economics.

c) Skimming data
2.2 Lectures, seminars and tutorials / Essays and Problem questions.
2.3 Practice exercise on econometrics.
Lesson 3: Preparing to Apply
3.1 University-style task 1: TMUA advice
3.2 University-style task 2: Indifference Curve interview example.
3.3 Q&A on Preparing Applications
Detailed feedback: An end of course report is sent on completion detailing the student’s achievements and areas for further work.
This course will be led by Daniel. Daniel is an experienced tutor and a Cambridge graduate. He has a stellar academic record and is currently completing a PhD at King's College London.
- Maximum Class Size: We teach in groups of no more than 10 with the average number in our classes being 5
