Our 8+ early preparation course is for students currently in Year 2 and will focus on moving from the basic 7+ English and Mathematics skills into the higher-level required to be successful at the 8+ stage.
Mathematics will begin with a different mental maths concept and then focus on one skill area each day. Problem solving will be brought into each lesson, using past paper examples.
In English there will be daily spelling, punctuation and grammar work. Students will explore texts with a focus on making inferences and using the text for evidence in answers. Writing work will focus on the use of sensory language in description.
It is expected that students have a clear understanding of the 4 operations and times tables (X2,3,4,5,6,10) in mathematics. They should be able to write a 3-paragraph piece independently and should have a solid grasp on the Year 1-2 exception spelling words. To get the most out of the course working online, student should have experience working on an electronic platform and be able to focus for the 2-hour duration. We will have a short break at the mid-way point.
This course will be lead my one of our professional tutors, Kathleen. Kathleen has been teaching for over 15 years in both primary and secondary schools. She aims to instill self-confidence in her students and also help them develop creative independence.
