THE BASICS OF FILM-MAKING: AN INTRODUCTION TO SHOOTING AND EDITING SHORT FILMS
This course is intended as a fun way for budding Spielbergs to learn the basics of film-making, and involves a full day of activity, including:
- Story-boarding: coming up with a concept and developing a script;
- Filming: each participant will play both cast and crew, acting a character while learning about framing, shot composition, lighting, and sound basics;
- Editing: adding music, transitions, special effects, and using footage efficiently;
- The Premiere! Watching the finished product and taking home a DVD of the masterpiece.
The course aims to show how with fairly simple tools, film-making is a brilliantly accessible hobby which exercises the imagination and encourages creative thinking.
The course is run by Richard Massey, a Keystone Tutor, who has been making short films since he was six, and has previously worked with the BBC and the Discovery Channel. Richard believes that film-making is a fantastic creative outlet which everyone should at least have a go at, and aims to leave the attendees of the course with a passion for film-making, and a hobby that will last a lifetime.
The course runs from 9.30 am - 6.30 p.m. on either a Saturday or a Sunday (timetables are flexible if required). Groups are limited to six - to ensure everyone gets a starring role.
