English language teacher, Summer 2006 (Ecuador).
I am very familiar with the government 'Letters and Sounds' phonics teaching programme and find it effective in the teaching of early reading, when used as a secondary support to the child's current situation. I would refer to this document as and when appropriate in the teaching of early reading.

Biography
I have been teaching (fully qualified) for three years, and am currently working as a primary school supply teacher. Prior to this I worked as a Reception Class Teacher years and a Nursery Teacher for a further year.
I studied History with Education at the University of Cambridge (Part I) and single honours History (part II). I hold a Primary PGCE from the University of London (Institute of Education). I have 'A' Levels in History, French and Biology and hold a range of GCSE qualifications.
Before undertaking my PGCE I spent time travelling and working abroad, in South America, France and Spain. I still travel regularly but enjoy short trips now as I am comitted to residing in London for at least another two or three years.
I have worked in a number of children's settings including a variety of types of schools, after school clubs, holiday clubs and play schemes. I am passionate about learning and enjoy supporting children as they develop their literacy and numeracy skills.
As well as teaching I write fiction, and am currently writing my fouth novel (whilst I continue to look for representation). I also write short stories and poetry, and am in the process of having two of my short stories published.
I am particualarly interested in the mental health and well-being of children, which is a central theme to my work. For this reason I am training in Psychotherapy as I want to work in an environment where I can ensure that I can take this into sufficient consideration whilst teaching. I believe I would be able to provide this approach to teaching and learning through working with children on a one to one basis with Keystone Tutors.
Personal Approach
Appropriate praise and encouragement are tantamount to a child's development in order to develop their self-confidence and self-esteem, and thus aid the progression of their learning. For this reason I always ensure that I value each child as an individual and take their differing needs and requirements into consideration. Within the classroom I aim to personalise learning as much as possible, and now I look forward to having greater opportunities to work in this way through tutoring.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I am working as a supply teacher with Protocol Education, and currently having a temporary position in a Nursery Class in Hendon (3 days/week until Easter). I am also training in Psychotherapy and working on my writing (I am just starting work on my fourth novel whilst I continue to look for representation for my work).
