Experience
I have been tutoring privately since I graduated in 2008.
Since graduating I have been involved in youth work. This developed from a voluntary placement at a youth centre in Bristol, from which I achieved an NVQ in Community Volunteering.
As a youth worker I mentored 16-21 year olds who were out of education employment and training, directing them towards a more postive lifestyle. Much of this involved confidence building.
Biography
I graduated from Bristol University in 2008 with a 2:1 in Classics. I spent the following year living in Bristol and doing youth work, as well as various voluntary endeavours. I also started tutoring privately and taught Maths and English up to AS level.
Personal Approach
Everybody employs different techniques when it comes to learning and it is essential, as a tutor, to identify the most effective approach.
Certain aspects however are universal. I try to encourage my pupils to learn and to spark an interest in the subject matter that goes beyond utility.
Depending on the pupil's age, I put a varying degree of focus on exam technique. With a sunject like GCSE Maths I have found many students are thrown off by the wording of certain questions so ironing out these points of confusion is very important. On top of this I identify specific areas that are problematic and do more intensive work to straighten them out.
I am easy going, encouraging and friendly, which I have found helps in building a relationship with my pupils and puts them at greater ease.
