James Farha
Location: West London
I predominantly teach: AS/A2 English , Essay Writing
My general subjects: English, History, Interview Practice, Study Skills
Experience
I am experienced in one to one tuition between the ages of 8 and 18. I have tutored over twenty students in the last year with a particular focus on building essay and writing technique. I have also helped to prepare a number of foreign language students for entry to UK prep and secondary schools and whilst on my year abroad helped a group of Syrian university students with their foreign language work.
My own academic experience ranges broadly through the humanities in a mixture of languages and essay based subjects (Arabic, History, English and Theology).
I feel that teaching students how to harness the power of their language as efficiently as possible, and to have a grasp of the importance of structure to their ideas is the key to shifting their marks up through the grade boundaries.
Biography
I grew up around the south-east and left Eton with As in English Language at AS-Level and English Literature, Theology and History at A-Level. In 2004 I went to Durham University to read English, Arabic and Theology.
On a year abroad I spent nine months in Damascus, Syria, learning arabic before moving to Beirut to work as a journalist over the summer holidays.
Since graduating I have been studying to become a lawyer, and am pursuing a second life as a writer.
Personal Approach
My focus is always on the individual. I aim to capture their interest in a subject with a structured but relaxed atmosphere and tailor the sessions to build on individual strengths and target any weaknesses.
This can include exercises to improve essay and exam technique or focused sessions exploring the interests of the student and helping them develop their own critical ideas. Interest and flexibility are key.

''I was very impressed with James!''
''James has been marvelous for Jen. He is an exceptionally nice young man and I know has made quite a supreme effort to get to us here in Wargrave. For that, we are very grateful. He had just the right approach with her and hopefully will just have made the difference for her to get the grade she needs......If we have a panic moment just before the exams we might be contacting him again!''
''Just brilliant so thank you for your invaluable help with all that exam technique. The school can't quite understand how he pulled such an enormous rabbit out of his hat but I shall come clean about our secret weapon when I get the chance. Archie is a very happy little man.''
''James has managed to give Quentin greater focus while keeping the lesson fun and interesting. ''
