Experience
I'm experienced in both one-to-one tuition and classroom environments. I run my own drama class for 15-18 year olds each Saturday, as well as teaching classes for various ages from 6 to 18 at Stagecoach Theatre School. In teaching drama I place a strong emphasis on teaching good communication skills and confidence through our workshops as well as the skills required for performance.
I have worked as a tutor for friends and family, especially towards Science and Maths GCSEs.
My academic background is an eclectic mix of science, philosophy and arts: I have 11 GCSEs (9 A*s and 2 As) and 4 A grades at A-Level in Physics, Chemistry, Maths and French. I have a 1st Class Law Degree from Oxford University and a BA in Acting from The London Academy Of Music and Dramatic Art.
Biography
I grew up in Ipswich, and read Jurisprudence at Balliol College, Oxford, graduating in 2007 with 1st Class Honours and the Gibbs Prize for highest achievement in Contract, Tort, Land and Trust Law examinations.
Since leaving university I studyied on a two-year intensive professional acting course at The London Academy Of Music and Dramatic Ary, and have recently performed in Otieno (Southwark Playhouse) and Birdsong, directed by Trevor Nunn, at The Comedy Theatre in London's West End.
As well as acting, my other great passions are in directing and writing: in 2003 I won a nationwide film competition run by the Electoral Commission and I work as a drama teacher and director at a local theatre school.
Personal Approach
In our education system, remembering information is important: quotes, facts and figures must be studied and learned. However, exams are not just about the recall of information: I aim to develop and crystallise the fundamental thought processes and essay writing techniques that allow a student to use the factual information in such a way as to obtain the best grades.
I ensure that my tuition serves each student's specific needs and provides both a valuable addition to their other educational sources and a framework on which to develop their learning in the future. Together we will develop the required understanding, reasoning and specific knowledge for examinations and beyond.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I am currently tutoring Mathematics and Science at 9+, 11+ and 13+ level, as well as interview technique
