Biography
I studied piano and organ at Oxford: organ under John Webster, the professor of music at University College and also of Trinity College of Music, and I studied piano under Vernon Mann. I am a research fellow of Monash University in Australia, as a result of my having designed the internationally-accredited music curriculum for the Afghanistan National Institute of Music in Kabul.I am a teacher, composer and recitalist, and I have performed in many locations in the UK, Europe and North America, often when accompanying choirs in cathedrals around the world. Fundamentally, though, I'm a teacher, and I thoroughly enjoy working with children and young people, and helping them to realise their various talents. I have always based my teaching on the premise that learning should be rigorous, but always leavened with a great deal of fun. For the past 18 years I have taught English, French and Latin at a top British prep school and have been able to retain my passion for music by being the school organist, taking various choirs and teaching a number of private pupils.
Personal Approach
I have acted as a private tutor to many children, both in the UK and other parts of the world, since 1983. I have been engaged by many people, several of whom have been high-profile figures from the world of film and television, banking and international commerce. My approach is one that combines the rigour of academic requirement with what I regard as an essential leavening of fun. As a tutor I like to build up a strong bond with my tutees, and to instil confidence and a love of learning.
