Experience
I am a fully qualified teacher (Distinction at PGCE) with two years' full time experience. I have also tutored privately and voluntarily through the Jacari charity in Oxford. I have tutored students at both primary and secondary level (including for the private school entrance exams).
At school I voluntarily taught primary (year 6) for one hour a week. I also ran two literacy based clubs at school in my free time. One helped students with english as an additional language cope with their GCSE courses. The other was for year 7 and 8 pupils. It helped them develop their literacy, numeracy and personal skills through fun activities and sport.

Biography
I grew up in somerset and obtained 11 GCSEs (8 A* and 3 As) and 3 As at A level in English, French and History. Later, I studied English at Oxford University. After graduating, I joined the TeachFirst programme and taught in a challenging secondary school in West London for two years. During my time there, as well as running clubs to support children with improving their literacy and setting up a reading library, I tutored a young girl for two years. I am now in the process of setting up my own educational charity and writing a book.
Personal Approach
I always look at the needs of the pupil and teach in a way that will benefit them most. Through me experience as a teacher, I am able to teach exam technique by breaking it down and making the process clear. However, while exam technique is important, I believe that success in exams will come far more easily if the pupil is engaged in the topic. Therefore, I like to have a creative approach to teaching by looking for ways that the pupil can best access the topic being studied. Alongside this creative approach, I believe that each pupil needs the right atmosphere to learn in. I am very patient and believe praise and positive reinforcement will get the best results.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I am in the process of setting up an educational charity to help struggling year 8s in the types of school that I have been working in. I am also working on a novel and have just had a short story published. I plan to focus on the charity over the next few years and would like to work as a private tutor to supplement my savings while I am doing so.
