Experience
I have been a private tutor for four years and have worked with a range of students from age five to the first year of university. I am able to teach when there are added demands. For example, the five-year-old boy I taught was recovering from leukemia and English was not his first language. I was preparing him for school and we had to work around the effects of his medicine. I also taught a girl during the first year of her A-Levels after which, she chose to be home-schooled with me as her tutor during the second year. I have prepared children for 11+, GCSE, and A-Level examinations, as well as helping them prepare UCAS statements and university applications.
I have recently tutored an A-Level student in Economics in preparation for his examinations, as well as helping a six-year old with his reading homework; an eight-year old girl with literacy, and I have been teaching English (part literacy and writing skills; part English as a foreign language)to a fifteen-year-old girl, who is receiving treatment for leukemia.

Biography
I studied at Queen's College, London before attending St. Clare's Oxford, an international school, where I studied the International Baccalaureate. I also did two A-Levels in my gap year. I did a BA at UCL and achieved a First Class Honours. I took a year out while I was writing a novel as I had an agent and wanted to commit to my fiction. I then returned to UCL where I completed an MA in English Literature: Issues in Modern Culture. I am currently a writer (short fiction, features and reviews). I write for a range of London magazines and my fiction has received strong praise from John Sutherland (Chair of the Man Booker Prize 2005) as well as from others in publishing. I also worked as commissioning editor at Notes from the Underground, a free literary and creative writing magazine. I am currently writing a novel and I am studying an MA in Creative Writing at The University of East Anglia.
Personal Approach
I have a flexible approach to teaching that takes into consideration the needs of individual students, and I am very conscious of the different difficulties of children of different ages. I encourage pupils to engage with me and often ask questions, both to maintain their interest in what we are talking about and to check that they understand. I am happy to work through examples with children until they build up the confidence and skill to work through problems with little or no assistance. I encourage pupils to think about topics for themselves and to develop their own opinions.
