Biography
I went to Harrow School where I took A levels in French, German and Latin. I was a school monitor, head of house and I played the double bass in a Jazz band.
I studied Classics at St Benet's Hall, Oxford, and graduated with a 2:1 in June 2010.
I then joined a German-run, 8 month project with the aid organisation Malteser International in Beirut: I worked in a psychiatric hospital for handicapped and mentally ill people, and I studied Middle Eastern socio-politics at the Université St Joseph.
I am now doing a Masters in Near and Middle Eastern Studies and studying Arabic at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London.
Personal Approach
The one-on-one tutorial is an excellent, Socratic forum for understanding and enjoying a subject and for the pupil to question and re-question aspects which (s)he finds problematic, with the constrictions of classroom teaching removed.
I am very patient, I had learning difficulties myself and I have developed a good sense of how to transmit information/skills in an original, understandable way. I believe in making education enjoyable and interesting on the basis that it then becomes easier to engage with, and succeed in, a given subject.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I am working on the Masters at SOAS at the moment, particularly the Arabic which I enjoy testing out (normally to my embarrassment) in select establishments along the Edgware Road. I enjoy playing, and listening to, music. I am about to join a choir and I like going to concerts all over London; I enjoy reading, art galleries, cycling, skiing, swimming and writing.
