Experience
I've taught mostly 13+, and mostly Mathematics. This was all done between 2008 and 2009, for another tutoring agency. Nonetheless, I feel it would be an achievable jump to tutor other age-groups in subjects where I have had academic experience, especially English and Latin (which I studied to degree level), in addition to a wide range of other disciplines. I've also been working, with adults, as an elocution therapist.

Biography
I'm a one-time tutor looking to reacquaint myself with the profession. Having worked as a copywriter and a journalist of late, I'm hoping now to reignite what I started a few years ago. My life has taken in a wide variety of professional experiences, from lifting tins of paint to cheffing to temping at a now-defunct sports website. However, my intensely inquisitive attitude to the world around me has never dulled, and I remain very much in touch with my inner child - if there's something worth learning, I'll always give it thorough study! I believe that this attitude equips me ideally for tuition. I am extremely good at engaging with people of all ages, on their terms as well as mine, and have enormous patience as well as the ability to work through a problem in simple language.
I attended Westminster School as a Queen's Scholar, coming 2nd overall in the scholarship exam. I went on to study English Literature BA at Cambridge and Science Journalism MA at City University London.
Personal Approach
My methods vary from student to student - a particularly outgoing and outwardly intelligent student will often thrive best within a discursive setting, whereas an introverted child will learn best from demonstration and 'parroting'. Generally, I'll try and make the child do the vast majority of the notation and the practice, but I'll always let them know if they're off-course. If they are engaging well with a piece of work, but they are getting minor details wrong, I'll generally let them finish and then later explain what the problem is. Encouraging a child is my preference - I am sterner when a child gets something wrong that they have already clearly mastered, but on the whole I believe in supporting and engaging with a child on their cognitive level.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I live in Hammersmith with my wife. I spend my time playing cricket and football, writing, discussing cultural developments and taking long walks. The next few years promise the first few years of blissful wedlock, a higher batting-average and hopefully the publishing of my first novel! And yes, I can commit to tutoring for the foreseeable future.
