Biography
With a very strong academic background, and four valuable years of teaching I believe I would be an excellent tutor. I graduated with a Biology degree attaining a First from Imperial and have been teaching Science since. I am about to embark on a Science Communication Masters in October.
Both of the schools I taught at were very demanding in terms of differentiating my teaching; I've taught pupils with learning difficulties as well as gifted and talented students. My previous school provided me with the opportunity to work with pupils on an individual basis quite frequently including some tutoring opportunities; for example helping individual students to complete their Science coursework.
I've had a very diverse upbringing, having lived in numerous countries. This has shaped me into someone who can quickly develop positive working relationships and I look forward to tutoring a wide variety of students.
Personal Approach
I strongly believe that the best way to learn science is through questioning and discovery. I try to develop enquiry skills in students so that they learn to become more independent when faced with a scientific question. I am always seeking opportunities for students to learn actively rather than lecturing them. I believe that through strategic questioning pupils can build on their prior knowledge and really take ownership of their learning. I am very patient and am good at developing positive working relationships with students.
What I do when I am not tutoring
I am currently about to embark on a Masters degree in Science Communication at Imperial College. I have been teaching for the past four years but have always wanted to explore the world of science communication. I am quite keen on exploring potential scientific journalism opportunities, and I also quite like the idea of developing educational resources.
