Biography
I am currently studying medicine at King's College London and before this I was a Cambridge University where I got a BA in medical sciences and philosophy. Before this I grew up in Dorset, with my parents and my younger brother and sister. I attended a grammar school and then Canford School, where I fostered a love of drama and cross country running (something I am somewhat less keen on now!). Before the age of 7 I lived in Leeds, Wales and then the USA and was used to changing house and school every year! I now live in Stockwell/Clapham area with friends whilst I finish the last two years of my studies to become a Dr and I am loving the busy London lifestyle, even if I do need to return to Dorset for the odd breath of country air now and again.
Personal Approach
Having had tutoring myself when I was younger as I prepared for 11+ and public school scholarship exams at 13 I know what it takes to be a good (and bad) tutor. It is clear that to me if a parent is paying for private tuition they want something a little bit extra. They want results, and they want something school occasionally lacks: personal, focussed, inspiring and clear tuition suited to the individual child.
My teaching will focus on the skills and understanding required by the exams, it will involve going over past papers, finding out your child's strengths and weaknesses and leaving no stone unturned! From that starting point we can make an action plan of goals and problems to be solved and see progress week on week as they learn the study skills, tricks for how to remember facts, scientific processes and essay writing templates that helped get me through many a tricky exam.
Sometimes school syllabuses can be so exam orientated that they lack soul and wider context though, as so if your child wants to expand their horizons I am here as a mentor and a will encourage good books for further reading and talking points to support those students who are aiming high and want to reach out and discover the complexity of the world around them.
Above all, I have a sense of humour and I passionately believe that a good teacher can open up new worlds to discover and help to dismantle walls of doubt that can hold young people back.
