Biography
I graduated from Exeter University with a 2:1 in English Literature. Upon leaving university I worked for Cardboard Citizen’s, the UK’s first homeless people’s theatre company. I continued my interest in theatre through performing with various companies and co- founding my own company, Catch the Conscience Theatre, in the summer of 2008. By the autumn of the same year I decided to resume my love of English through private tuition to students of all ages. This has since extended to teaching Drama and Theatre Studies, History, Music and Flute. In September 2010 I moved to Paris to study at the Jacques Lecoq Theatre School where I learnt French and how to do handstands (amongst other things!) I then merged Catch The Conscience Theatre with a new company, Le Mot Juste, which I co-founded in Paris. After completing the course I returned to England this Summer to work with Le Mot Juste and continue private tuition.
Personal Approach
My method of teaching varies with each pupil I work with. However, in the first stages I believe it is essential to ascertain the immediate needs of the pupil, and discover where they think my help is most required. Once established, I encourage them to be as honest as possible throughout the teaching process by meeting them on their level, supporting an atmosphere of vocal and written exploration, and above all, inspiring them to learn.
What I do when I am not tutoring
Since returning from France I have continued my work as a team motivational leader with M&MR, a company who specialise in team building events. I have also been re-writing a play that was recently produced in France with my theatre company and have worked as an Assistant Stage Manager on a workshop for a company called Playful Productions. When I'm not cycling around London going to work, or to the theatre in the evenings, I enjoy baking and working in the garden at home, cooking for friends and playing music.
