Experience
I spent three years teaching History (Years 7 to 13) and supporting Key Stage 3 Maths and English at St Marylebone Church of England School.
I am now at teaching History throughout the school at Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith, and contributing to Oxbridge preparation classes.
I have been tutoring from Key Stages 1 to 5 since July 2006. In particular, I have specialised in tutoring 11+ candidates for entry to major day schools in London and boarding schools outside. This generally focuses on English, Maths and Verbal/Non-Verbal Reasoning skills and exam technique.
Naturally, given my job, I also do a lot of work supporting GCSE and A level History students. This could be exam technique, the content of the course, or Oxbridge interview preparation.
I hold a full CELTA certificate for Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

Biography
Education has always interested me. Having studied History, Latin, Economics and Spanish at St Paul's Girls' School, I read Modern History at Oxford. During my time at university I played an active role in various projects to address educational disadvantage in the Oxford area. On graduating, I spent a year doing private tuition for various London-based tuition firms, before going into teaching full time in September 2007.
Personal Approach
As a tutor I believe it's very important to be positive, especially when working on subjects that a child may feel unsure about at school. I'd love to think that my students go back into their school classrooms with a renewed enthusiasm for learning.
Having had experience of both classroom teaching and private tuition, I realise the opportunities that private tuition offers for personalised learning. I think private tuition is a fantastic way to boost confidence in both exam content and skills, and the approach I take focuses on both of these elements.
What I do when I am not tutoring
Working at a school takes up most of my life - if I'm not teaching then I'm organising Model United Nations, school History trips or Senior Debating. The holidays are a fantastic opportunity to go away and I generally spend the Summer travelling if I can. For the last few months training for the London Marathon has dominated my free time, but that will all be over soon!
