Biography
I went to the King's School, Canterbury and then read English at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. After graduating with a 2:1 I taught for a year at a prep. school before taking a PGCE at London University for which I was awarded a Distinction. I taught English full time for 17 years at Repton where I was Head of English and Director of Drama and for 7 years as Head of English at Harrow. I now teach 4 days a week and in my spare time am writing a guide to correct spelling, punctuation and grammar -- for adults as well as children!
Personal Approach
Over the years I have discovered that successful teaching springs from listening to students and finding out what they know rather than attempting to cram them with information. I aim to help them recognise the skills and original ideas they already possess and to give them the confidence to build on these and then tackle new challenges. I also try to make sure students have as clear an idea as possible of what exactly the exam they are facing will demand of them.
